YEREVAN (Combined Sources)–The Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s Nigol Aghbalian Student Union is set to organize a torchlight procession on Wednesday to the Armenian Genocide Memorial at Dzidzernagapert, Nigol Aghbalian President Vahe Sargsyan told a press conference on Tuesday.
The march will begin at Liberty Square, where 300 torches and 10,000 candles will be distributed among participants, Sargsyan said. He said that applications to participate have been submitted form different youth organizations, University Student Councils, and young clergymen.
"The number of participants is expected to exceed last year’s 15,000," he remarked.
Participants will be carrying to Dzidzernagapert the Armenian tricolor, along with the flags of nations, which have officially recognized the Armenian genocide, Sargsyan explained.
During the press conference, Sargsyan appealed to Armenia’s to light candles on their windowsill’s during the procession in support of Hay Tahd and in the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
"It is high time that we develop and present to Turkey deman’s which it must comply with as a country that committed genocide," the ARF Youth President said. "The ARF has a clear-cut position in this sense, which is that the historical homeland and the lost legacy must be restored."
"The ARF is against Turkey’s membership in the EU without recognition of the genocide," Sargsyan added.
In other news, the Nigol Aghbalian Student Union will be organizing its annual ARF Youth Jamboree, a week long youth getaway aimed at promoting patriotism and healthy living among Armenia’s throughout the world.
The Jamboree will be held on July 18-25 at the resort village of Aghavandzor.
The annual Jamboree, which has been held for ten years now, plays a special role for the Armenian youth, Sargsyan said. It will give 400 young Armenia’s from ten countries a unique chance to visit Armenia, see its historic cites, and establish connections to their homeland.
