YEREVAN (RFE/RL)–Employees of Yerevan’s best hotel–Hotel Armenia demand to receive 20 percent of the company still owned by the government.
80 percent of Hotel Armenia was sold to Diaspora Armenian investors who have entrusted its management to the Marriot hotel chain. The government has retained 20 percent of the company–but according to privatization laws refuses to hand its share over to employees insisting that only the shares of a publicly traded company can be handed over to employees while Hotel Armenia was privatized through an international tender.
The employees told RFE/RL that if the government does not give a positive response to their request by Friday evening they will decide to go on a strike in a meeting they will hold later Friday.
