YEREVAN (Armenpress)–It is probable that Armenia will obtain chairmanship over the Collective Security Treaty (CST) after the May 24-25 summit of heads of states and CST signatories closes in Yerevan.
CIS Collective Security Council Secretary General Valery Nikolayenko said a number of amendmen’s to the regulatory bodies of the CST are expected to surface at the Yerevan summit–and the post of chairman of the council is also expected to be introduced.
During a meeting with Armenian President Robert Kocharian–Nikolayenko presented these proposals which were approved by the president. The chairman is responsible for calling sessions of CST member countries’ foreign and defense ministers–along with supervising the fulfillment of arrangemen’s made by the council.
