NOYEMBEREAN, Armenia—Speaking to troops stationed at a base near the Armenian town of Noyemberean marking the 21st anniversary of the ceasefire signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenia’s Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian asserted that the military and political leadership of Armenia are doing “everything possible to establish smart relations with the opponent and ensure the maintenance of the ceasefire regime.”
“Even today, we’re doing everything we can to make sure the conflict is settled peacefully,” Ohanian said. “We’re working consistently. If it’s not working out, we have to ask our neighboring country. We’re doing everything we can to make sure tensions don’t intensify and that the issues are solved through mutual understanding and the supremacy of our interests.”
On May 12, Minister Ohanian paid a working visit to Tavush Province and was at the frontline.
“The situation at the frontline, the zone of contact, the distances between the trenches and their impact don’t allow us to equip all the military positions, install different technological devices and be assured that they won’t be struck. That’s why we’re conducting experiments. Currently, the monitoring system is at a high level. After experimenting the monitoring, night vision and heat detection devices, we will conclude and decide how to work more effectively in different positions,” Ohanian said.
