YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A delegation led by National Assembly Speaker Karen Demirchian returned to Yerevan on September 8 after visiting Germany at the invitation of Bundestag Chairman Wolfgang Tilze and Bundesrat Chairman Roland Koch to attend the celebrations of the 50th jubilee of Germany’s parliament. The celebrations were attended by top legislators from several dozen countries.
During the visit the Armenian parliamentarians participated in a forum on "European integration & international cooperation" arranged on the sidelines of the jubilation. Karen Demirchian delivered a report at the forum.
Members of the Armenian delegation held meetings with Germany’s President–the Bundestag and Bundesrat Chairmen–the heads of the French Senate–the parliamen’s of Greece–Finland–Belgium and Bulgaria–and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Agreemen’s were reached regarding stronger interparliamentary ties–exchanges of friendship groups–and economic cooperation.
During the meeting Demirchian met with Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Milli Mejlis parliament Murtuz Aleskerov. During the talk–which was also attended by Bundestag Chairman Wolfgang Tilze–the sides discussed the Karabakh conflict and ways to settle it. The sides also agreed on further contacts.
The Armenian legislators also participated in the last meeting of the German Parliament in Bonn and the first meeting in Berlin in the repaired Reichstag building.
