BRATISLAVA (Horizon Weekly) — Russian Armenian Evgenia Medvedeva confirmed her status as the new star of women’s skating as she led a Russian podium sweep at the European Championships on January 29.
The 16-year-old took her first European gold ahead of teammates Elena Radionova, 17, and Anna Pogorilaya, 17, after the free skate.
She led all the way, scoring a total of 215.45 points, with Radionova (209.99) and Pogorilaya (187.05) having to settle for silver and bronze, respectively, for a second straight year.
The Moscow schoolgirl has taken the senior circuit by storm this season after winning the world junior title last year.
Medvedeva won the prestigious Grand Prix Final in December where she achieved the third best overall score in history of 224.54.
Evgenia Armanovna Medvedeva was born 19 November 1999 in Moscow. Her mother, a former figure skater, and father, Arman Babasyan, an Armenian, are divorced.

Lovely person, brilliant skater, great coaches and musical programs….. despite being a Canadian I will be rooting for this gem to win the gold medal in the upcoming 2018 Olympique.
Armenian? Her name is Evgenia, her last name is Medvedeva and she is competing for Russia and you call her ARMENIAN? Armenians and turks are sisters and Brothers because of Adam and Eve!
I think if she identifies herself with the Armenian culture, then we should include her among us, regardless of what her given name is. Her dad is Armenian. With a mere 6 million (or 8 million if one is more inclusive), we should try to be more inclusive and less exclusive, provided the people respect and identify with our culture.
