YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–During meeting between Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian and India’s Deputy Foreign Minister–Director General of India’s Council for Culture Himachal Som on July 26–Oskanian stated that Armenian-Indian cooperation is developing well and has good prospects; and all necessary pre-requisites for ensuring a higher level of these relations are present.
Minister Oskanian–stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation within the information technologies industry and pointed out the necessity for assistance from India in this industry. He invited Som to participate in the organization of the regional conference "On Information Technologies" to be held in Yerevan in November.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry’s Public Relations Department quoted Himachal Som as saying that India needs to study the experience of Armenia in preventing disasters and expressed gratitude to Armenia for its assistance in the earthquake relief efforts in India this year.
The prospect of Armenia becoming a bridge connecting India with Russia and Europe was also discussed. Armenia is boosting its links with China–and the Russia-Armenia-Iran-India-China axis is already in the making The great potential for cooperation in the pharmacology–education–light industry and agriculture–telecommunications–high technologies–and seismic protection was referred to as well.
Himachal Som underlined that the development of political–economic and cultural ties meets the interests of both countries. According to him–cooperation between Armenia and India in the international arena may prove mutually advantageous.
The two also spoke about the latest developmen’s in the Nagorno Karabakh and Kashmir peace processes.
