YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The head of the parliament foreign relations committee Hovhanes Hovanisian met with the deputy of the European Parliament from Germany Falaknaz Ujan on August 14–who is a Kurd by nationality.
Ujan was quoted by the parliament public relations department as saying that "Armenia is completely ready to join the family of European nations." She also praised the Armenian authorities for making no differences between Armenia’s and national minorities.
"The status of national minorities in Armenia gives a reason to think that Armenia is of those rare countries where belonging to a national minority does not presupposes social differences," she was also quoted as saying.
Hovhanes Hovanisian assured that both Armenia’s and representatives of other nationalities face the same problem.
Speaking on behalf of the whole Kurdish people–Ujan asked the Armenian authorities not to separate the Yezids (ethnic group of Kurdish professing a religion close to the teaching of old Persians) from Muslim Kurds–as they are one nation. At the end–she said her visit to Armenia was full of facts indicating close friendship and solidarity between Armenia’s and Kurds.
