YEREVAN (Yerkir)–The Armenian Community living as migrant workers in the Russian county of Grasnodar announced Friday its endorsement of Armenian Presidential Candidate Vahan Hovannesian and called upon voters in Armenia to vote for the candidate during the February 19 Presidential Elections.
The decision to endorse Hovannesian was reached after a series of community meetings in the towns of Duabse, Apsheronski, Sochi, and Armavir voted to support the candidate. The Armenian citizens residing in these localities are unable to vote during the elections because they are working in Russia to support their families in Armenia, according to letter of endorsement.
“When we read in the Armenian Press about the country’s economic development we become overjoyed, but when we speak to our families they tell us that this development does not affect them,” the letter reads. “They tell us that awaiting us in Armenia is the same unemployment and miniscule pay that we left years ago.”
“But today, there is new hope that the reality in Armenia will change. Our hope is dependent directly on the presidential elections and on Vahan Hovannesian,” the letter states. “We believe that through Vahan Hovannesian, it is truly possible for us to improve the current reality in Armenia.”
The letter goes on to appeal to the families, friends, neighbors, and fellow compatriots of the migrant workers living in Russia to make the only right choice for Armenia and vote for Vahan Hovannesian during Tuesday’s election.
“Only with Vahan occupying the office of the president will the Armenian not only believe in a future for himself and his family, but will also be able to become an active participant in creating that future,” the letter concluded.
