AKHALKALAK (A-INFO)–The Council of Armenian organizations of Javakhk urged local Armenia’s to support the Ertoba bloc in Georgia’s November 2 parliamentary elections–based on its promise to pay more attention to Armenian issues.
The party’s pledge comes after Armenia’s of Javakhk–by way of a declaration–detailed the dire need to resolve socio-economic–political–and education issues of Armenia’s in the region.
Ertoba’s deputy chairman Alexander Chachia said that most of the provisions of the declaration are in line with the principles of his party–and because the region of Samtskhe-Javakhk is crucial to Georgia–the problems of the predominately Armenian population must be readily resolved.
The Council also endorsed Haik Meltonian who is running under the single-mandate system in the Tsalka district. Meltonian has a good chance of being elected–especially after one of the most-well known Armenian members of the outgoing Georgian parliament Van Bayburdian–withdrew his candidacy from the list of the local majoritarian constituency–explaining that the existence of several Armenia’s running from the same constituency may assure victory for a non-Armenian. He also called on local voters to throw their support behind Meltonian.
