ISTANBUL (Marmara)Armenian schools in Istanbul have received threatening letters from the unknown, yet same, sources, reported the Marmara newspaper Thursday. During the last week, the schools received unsigned threat letters from the same address. The letters urge the Turkish-Armenian community to defend Turkey from foreign aggression, reported the Marmara newspaper. According to the letters, the Armenian community would be gravely punished if they do not defend Turkeys interests. The letters said that it was the last warning. Marmara editors stated that had made a decision to not publicize the letter, as to not create concern and fear in the community. However, the editors stated, since other schools had received similar letters, the word was already out in the community and the news had appeared in several Diaspora newspapers. Archbishop Mesrob Mutafyan, the Patriarch of Istanbul, confirmed the receipt of the letters to the press, explaining that the Patriarchate deemed it fit to not publicize the incident. The Patriarch stated that security agencies have begun an investigation into the matter and expressed hope that the perpetrators would be caught. Mutafyan said that public opinion would surely condemn such actions.
