YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A new method of pearlite expansion has been elaborated at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences. The method allows us to obtaining a strong–high-temperature material. Avetis Varuzhanian–the inventor and head of laboratory–said that the pearlite expanded through the application of his method did not crumble and is seven times as light as water.
One of the advantages of Varuzhanian’s invention is that other materials can be obtained from the pearlite expanded without binders. According to the scientist–this material can serve as a perfect substitute for wood and can be used in construction. Varuzhanian said that black–yellow and rosy expanded pearlite can now be obtained. He also said that his new technology of pearlite expansion without binders was approved by the International Scientific and Technological Center and won a $259,300 grant. The grant will be issued within the next three years–after the working plan is approved.
As regards the introduction of inventions in economy–Varuzhanian pointed out that today "businessmen invest their capital in trade and service–while many inventions and their introduction can bring in multi-billion profits to the state." According to Varuzhanian–the pearlite reserves in Armenia total 30,000,000,000 tons.
