YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Three Armenian scientists – Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Youri Shukurian–ANAS Academician Alexander Talalian and Director of the Institute of Geophysics and Seismology Engineering Sevada Ohanesian have been awarded the Victor Hambartsumian Prize for their active research work.
The prizes instituted by the Armenian Engineers & Scientists of America–Inc. in 1995 were handed by the Chairman of the AESA Sciences and Education Committee Sargis Barkhudarian at a September session of the ANAS Presidium.
Within the framework of Barkhudarian’s current visit to Armenia–Armenian scientists will be given a package of proposals regarding joint activities with AESA. Barkhudarian highlighted the Westernizing Software Development Marketing project worked out by Armenian scientists. A series of seminars is expected to be held for two Armenian experts to raise the level of trust to the partners’ business activities on the US computer market. According to him–in that sphere AESA helped obtain financial assistance in developing a Spell Check computer program.
Speaking to Noyan Tapan–Barkhudarian mentioned that the ongoing Planting Fast Growing Trees project implemented with the ANAS Institute of Botany was nonetheless interesting.
AESA also assists in conducting a regular exchange of scientists from Armenia and the US scientists of Armenian origin–holding joint conferences–seminars–arranging visits to prestigious laboratories and research centers.
Barkhudarian says AESA’s Armenia-based Office intends publishing a second issue of the reference book containing E-mail addresses of 10,000 Armenia’s involved in scientific activities throughout the world. AESA representative in Armenia Armen Pivazian was appointed co-ordinator of works in the country. The initial publication of the reference book in the United States in 1995 contained 600 addresses.
