At the 1998 Academic Decathlon For Southern California Private Schools–Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School–Holy Martyrs Ferrahian Armenian School–and AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian placed high marks competing against 22 other participating schools.
Pilibos placed 2nd–winning the sliver medal–and Ferrahian 3rd in Division II.
Pilibos accumulated a total number of 27 medals: 11 Gold–7 Silver–and 9 Bronze. The medals represent individual placemen’s of the 9 students that made up the Pilibos team. The nine areas covered by the decathlon were as follows: Essay–Fine Art–Speech–Science–Interiew–Social Science–Music–Math–Language–and Literature.
Pilibos was the only school in Division II whose every member won a medal. The team included Lusine Danakian–Hovik Zakian–Karine Jeghlian–Vahan Vartanian–Rehn Dudukgian–Hratch Kirikian–Raffi Mekhitarian–Arsine Echigian–and Levon Baronian.
Overall–regardless of Division rank–Pilibos placed 5th with 33,880 total points. The highlight of the competition belongs to Lusine Danakian–who scored the 3rd highest total points among the 225 participating students.
From Pilibos Danakian received gold medals in speech–mathematics–and fine arts–and a silver medal in Language and Literature. Her teammate Levon Baronian earned gold medals in mathematics and fine arts and silver medals in music and science. Hovik Zakian earned a gold in science and bronzes in speech and mathematics. Raffi Mekhitarian earned two gold medals–one in essay and one in fine arts. Karine Jeghlian received silver medals in speech and music–while Vahan Vartanian earned one in mathematics–along with his bronze medals in science and social science. Rehn Dudukgian received silver medals in fine arts and language and literature–and a bronze in mathematics. Arsine Echigian earned a gold in mathematics and a bronze in speech.
