YEREVAN (Arka)—Wines from 15 Armenian winemakers were showcased at the Areni Wine Festival over the weekend, head of the event’s organizing fund Nune Manukyan said.
The sixth Areni Wine Festival was held in Vayots Dzor, Armenia, on October 3 to 5. The aim of the festival is to promote development of rural tourism, to show the rich historical and cultural heritage of the area and to develop tourism in Areni and the Vayots Dzor region as a whole.
Manukyan also said three new brands of Armenian wine were presented at the festival this year. Guests had a chance to try the wines at a tasting during the festival.
The sixth Areni festival was held in five different winemaking communities – Rind, Areni, Malishka, Elpin, and Yeghegnadzor. But Areni village remains the main venue for the festival and its key events, including performances by musical groups.
The festival is organized by the Areni Festival Fund, supported by Armenia’s ministry of economy and Industrial Development Foundation, together with the Union of Communities of Armenia, Vayots Dzor regional administration and the German Society for International Cooperation. The first Areni Wine Festival was held in 2009.
