YEREVAN (Armenpress) There is a great demand for Arpi and Gandzak wines (produced by Ginetas Ltd. in the village of Arpi–province of Vayots Dzor)–in USA–Germany–Cyprus and other countries. The enterprise–financed by the US Agricultural Department’s Marketing Support Program–procures around 200 tons of grapes each year –thus facilitating some of the problems the local vine growers face in the realization of their harvest.
The enterprise’s manager Vardan Khalatian said that they have planned to double the production of wines this year and to allocate the received income for construction of auxiliary facilities. The enterprise also has an auxiliary experimental vineyard for growing high-quality seedlings which are sold to local grape growers.
Similar small enterprises are being now constructed in other villages of the province with the assistance of the US Agricultural Department.
The local authorities in Vayots Dzor have also decided to put into operation the only cannery in the province located in the town of Yeghegnadzor that has been idle for several years. The cannery is capable of processing 2,000 tons of raw material. The government has promised to allocate necessary financial assistance.
