SCOTTSDALE–Ariz.–The Armenian Relief Society Western Region held its 79th annual convention from Thursday to Sunday at the Radisson Resort in Scottsdale.
The meeting officially convened at 12:30 p.m. Thursday with welcoming remarks by Sona Torosian of the Phoenix ARS Ararat chapter. Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian blessed the meeting and led the gathered in an observance of a moment of silence in memory of the recently deceased His Holiness Karekin I–Catholicos of All Armenia’s.
The opening remarks concluded with a presentation by ARS Western Regional chairwoman Helen Keosian.
Also participating in the meeting were Armenian Revolutionary Federation Central Committee representative John Kossakian; ARS Central Executive representative Houri Najarian from Canada; the local ARF chapter representatives Yerevan Ohanessian and Rose Kabadjouzian; ARS Psychiatric Outreach Program director Dr. Armen Geonjian; the ARS Gumri and Spitak psychiatric center director Aram Manoukian and representing Congressman John Shadegg (R-Ariz.) Pat Curry.
During the four-day long session–the convention participants discussed and reviewed the activities of the ARS Regional Executive in the past year and assessed the programs of the organization in the coming year. Following this discussion–the convention elected the following members to replace outgoing ARS Regional Executive members: Rose Altounian (San Fernando Valley)–Maro Chalian (Burbank)–Madlen Sarkissian (San Fernando Valley)–Anita Haddad (Montebello) and Sirayg Panossian (Fresno).
The aforementioned newly elected members join the following remaining Regional Executive members: Christine Arakelian (Glendale)–Janet Derderian (Pasadena)–Alice Filhanessian (Orange County) and Mayda Bezjian (San Francisco).
Following the conclusion of the convention–the newly-elected executive formed its board in the following manner: Maro Chalian–chairwoman; Christine Arakelian–vice-chairwoman; Janet Derderian–treasurer; Alice Filhanessian–secretary. The remaining members work on the board as advisors.
