STEPANAKERT—The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has bestowed upon the Armenian Relief Society two highly coveted state awards for its century of dedication to community service and relief.
October 18, during a centennial event at Stepanakert’s Youth Palace, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic President Bako Sahakian awarded the “Vachakan Barebashd” medal to the ARS Central Executive Board and the “Gratitude” medal to the ARS Artsakh Executive Board.
The ARS was honored earlier in the week on October 16 during a special reception in Stepanakert hosted by Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobian. Hakobyan awarded the ARS with the Diaspora Ministry’s Golden Medal.
The medal was given to the chairperson of the ARS Central Executive Board in honor of the organization’s centennial. Hakopyan praised the ARS for maintaining Armenian national identity in the Diaspora and its ongoing services to the Armenian homeland.
Earlier this Month, the ARS organized a week-long series of events in Aleppo and Syria to mark the organization’s centennial. Members and activists traveled to the Syrian desert for a pilgrimage to Der Zor then traveled to Armenia to conclude the centennial celebrations.
