GLENDALE–Haigaz Alvrtsyan–a well-known philologist and linguist from Javakhk–recently arrived in Los Angeles with the purpose of exposing the situation in Javakhk to the community. Alvrtsyan is hoping to secure assistance and feedback from the Armenia’s of Los Angeles.
The A.R.S. "Javakhk Fund" Committee was recently established by the Armenian Relief Society of Western USA to help raise funds necessary for the improvement of conditions in the historic Armenian province of Javakhk–which today is located in neighboring Georgia.
Haigaz Alvrtsyan’s visit to the local community has prompted the A.R.S. "Javakhk Fund" to organize a series of gatherings to address the situation in Javakhk–since many in the Diaspora are unaware of the circumstances in Javakhk today.
The first event is an invitation only reception which will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday–March 30 at the Armenian Society of Los Angeles center (221 S. Brand Blvd.–Glendale). Alvrtsyan will brief guests on the hardships being endured by the Armenia’s of Javakhk.
The other event will be a public gathering at the auditorium of Hoover High School (651 Glenwood Rd.–Glendale) on Sunday–April 1 at 6 p.m.. A video on Javakhk and a cultural program will be presented along with Haigaz Alvrtsyan’s briefing.
