LOS ANGELES–The "Mayr" chapter of the Armenian Relief Society marked its 80th anniversary during a banquet-celebration last Saturday at the Karapetian Hall in Hollywood.
Present at the celebration were Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian–Rev. Vazken Atmadjian–Yevgenia Melkonian–the wife of Armenia’s Consul General Armen Melkonian–ARS Central Executive representative Rosine Saghdejian–ARS Regional Executive members Helen Keosian–Alice Filhanessian and Christine Arakelian–as well as representatives from the St. Garabet church board of trustees–other community leaders and members.
The Mistress of Ceremonies Mayda Shahinian invited all the speakers–among them was keynote speaker Viken Yacoubian–who praised the relief and humanitarian work of the ARS and emphasized the important role the "Mayr" chapter had played in the Los Angeles Armenian community.
The banquet committee honored veteran ARS member Lousik Vartanian for her long years of service to the organization and the community–as well as Annik Sahagian–who for 20 years has been directing the ARS Saturday School in Los Angeles.
Also honored was more than 60-year veteran of the ARS Berjouhi Yeghiayan–who was the main benefactor of the banquet. Other benefactors included Mr. and Mrs. Garbis Titizian who made a generous contribution honoring Martha Titizian; Mr. and Mrs. Varoujan Koundakjian–Ara Davtian and Mr. and Mrs. Noubar Chorbajian.
At the conclusion of the program–ARS Regional Executive member Christine Arakelian presented a plaque to the chapter president Margo Seropian.
