The Armenian Relief Society will hold a special fund raiser Saturday at the Brandview Collection in Glendale–the proceeds of which will benefit the construction of a new headquarters for the organization.
It is hoped that on Saturday–other organizations extend a helping hand to ARS which has helped so many others in its time.
The decision to construct a new center was reached during a 1994 membership meeting–said ARS president Alice Madenlian–as the ARS realized the need for a larger center to better fulfill its mission.
In this past year–the ARS has been able to purchase two pieces of land near the existing center–thanks to a $300,000 donation made from the Lincy Foundation.
The first floor of the new center will house the financial and social departmen’s of the ARS. Here–the ARS will track troubled students and those arrested by police–and will attempt to reach out to families in need.
Many donations have been made to make the new center a reality–including a $100,000 grant by the late Sarkis Boghissian who will have his name engraved on the large hall.
