BERLIN— German-Armenian boxer Arthur Abraham (45-5, 30 KOs) won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) International Super Middleweight title on July 16, beating Norwegian boxer Tim-Robin Lihaug (15-2, 8 KOs) by an eighth round stoppage in a fight in Berlin, Germany.
Abraham knocked “a very tired looking Lihaug” down with a hard left-right combination in the eighth round, according to Jim Dower of Boxing News 24. “Abraham then unloaded on Lihaug with some powerful shots until his corner threw in the towel to have the fight stopped,” Dower continued. The referee ended the fight at 1:09 of the eighth round.
Winning this title gives Abraham a chance to compete for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight title in a final round with De Carolis, who defeated opponent Tyrone Zeuge on July 16 with a draw.
The thirty-six-year-old ethnic Armenian is a two-time former WBO super-middleweight champion (2013, 2014) and a former IBF middleweight champion (2005).
