YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The National Academy of Sciences of Armenia granted prominent French-Armenian artist Jansem (Hovhannes Semerjian) an Honorary Doctorate.
Jansem’s candidacy was submitted by Shahen Khachatrian–the director of the National Gallery of Armenia. He added that although the artist has greatly contributed to the international art scene–he still lacks proper appreciation in Armenia.
Jansem has created more than 6000 paintings. He resides and works in France and has received several honorary titles awarded by the French government. His works have been exhibited throughout the world. A museum bearing his name is a popular attraction in Japan–where his works are appreciated the most.
Jansem has twice donated his works to Armenia. Initially he donated several paintings to the Holy See of Echmiadzin–while the second time he donated about 100 works to the National Gallery of Armenia.
