Gevork Noubarian, a long-time member of the Asbarez staff, passed away Saturday. From 1987 to 2001 Noubarian was the newspaper’s layout and photography staff member.
Born in Kermanshah, Iran in 1931, Noubarian was educated in Iran and worked for several years for British Petroleum in its cartography and geography department. He was married to Zabel and had two sons, Oshin and Amour.
In 1984, Noubarian and his family moved to the US and in 1987 he began his work at Asbarez.
From the age of 11, Noubarian was a member of the Ararat Armenian Cultural and Educational Organization in Iran, where he was active in the organization’s literary, theater and cultural entities. After moving to California, he continued his active participation in the community as a member of the Homenetmen Ararat chapter, where he was active in similar ventures. He was also active in the Shoushi Music School’s assistance committee in Los Angeles.
After several years of work, Noubarian published the Farsi translation of Paruyr Sevak’s “Anlereli Zangagadoun.”
For the past several years, he was hard at work at creating a topographic map of Armenia.
The Asbarez family mours Noubrian’s passing and offers its heartfelt condolences to his wife, Zabel, his sons, Oshin and Amour, and his five grandchildren.
