GLENDALE–As the Christmas season approached the Armenian Youth Federation of Western America decided to become involved in the spirit of giving. This year–the AYF organized its first ever annual Christmas toy drive–the goal of which was to collect toys and distribute them to needy Armenian children in the Southern California community.
The toy drive began with the distribution of fliers at local Western Prelacy schools and churches. Next–AYF members delivered big gift wrapped boxes to all the collection sites. As the toys started rolling in–the boxes began to fill up.
After all the toys had been collected–AYF members from various chapters throughout Southern California delivered them to the Armenian Relief Society’s Social Service Center–through which the toys were distributed to the children of less fortunate Armenian families.
This first annual AYF toy drive–with the participation of a large number of community members proved to be a success.
"This mission of gift giving to the needy children of the community was a very important step for the AYF. Getting into the holiday spirit–this activity was a great way for us to continue our proud tradition of community activism and to pledge our renewed commitment for the enhancement of the lives of the Armenian Americans in this region," said Souzi Zerounian-Khanzadian Armenian Youth Federation Central Executive member.
