ATHENS–The Armenian Youth Federation of Greece took action against an exhibit of Turkish goods on display at the gallery of the Pirea Harbor Association. The AYF distributed leaflets at the entrance of the exhibit on March 1–which upset the Turkish participants.
The Turks requested Greek police remove the Armenian protesters from the site. The police warned the Armenia’s to disburse or face arrest. The demonstrators complied since they had already distributed all their leaflets.
The pamphlet claimed the Armenian Youth Federation is not against cooperation between peoples since it brings about mutual respect and understanding based on international human’stic principles. The pamphlet goes on by saying Turkey on the other hand is not one to respect these principles–since it continues to occupy lands belonging to other peoples. Turkish refusal to acknowledge crimes committed against humanity is proof of this lack of adherence to universal principles.
The Turkish government–said the leaflet–has been abusing human rights for several decades now–and continues to damage democracy in the country–and lends a deaf ear to the economic needs of its citizens.
In its conclusion–the pamphlet said that Turkey continues to deny the Genocide committed against the Armenian people–continues the economic blockade of Armenia–continues ethnic cleansing of its Kurdish minority–refuses to remove its occupying forces from Cyprus–and casts doubt on Greek suzerainty in the Aegean.
