UNITED NATIONS (Today.az)—The Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, Ambassador Agshin Mehdiyev, has sent a letter of protest to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, complaining that Armenia’s President and Foreign Minister visited Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan’s Permanent Mission to the UN said Friday.
The letter complained about President Serzh Sarkisian and Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian visiting Nagorno-Karabakh on the republic’s Independence Day, which was September 2.
The note described Karabakh as a “self-declared separatist entity illegally established by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan,” and said that the government of Azerbaijan considers the visit as “an open challenge” to the ongoing efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The visit of the Armenian officials to Karabakh for the annual celebrations was characterized in the letter as evidence that “Armenia fails to fulfill its most basic and compelling responsibilities and gives preference to escalation with unpredictable consequences.”
“It is essential to recall, in this regard, that the Security Council has consistently reaffirmed both sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and inadmissibility of use of force for the acquisition of territory,” the letter stated. “It has also recognizes that Nagorno Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan and has called on a number of occasions for immediate, full and unconditional withdrawal of the occupying forces from all the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.”
It went on to add that the General Assembly passed on March 14 a resolution that “directly reaffirmed” the “continued respect and support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders as a basis for the settlement of the conflict.”
“The Republic of Armenia must realize that, for its own good and in the interests of lasting peace, stability and mutually beneficial cooperation in the region, there is no alternative other than solving the conflict based on respect for the territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognizes borders,” the letter continued, adding that Azerbaijan will never accept a solution based on the Nagorno-Karbakh peoples’ right to self determination.
The letter concluded with a request that it be “circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda items 13 and 18, and of the Security Council.”
Mr. Agshin Mehdiyev is upset because since 1994 he and his fellowmen have not been able to rape and kill Armenians.
Armenians must only offer peace for recognizing independence of Nargorno Karabakh. Nothing else.
Long Live Armenia! Long Live Artsakh! Long Live Diaspora!
