YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In a speech at the OSCE Foreign Ministers’ Council in Brussels Monday, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian said the Azerbaijan should recognize the right to self-determination of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. We are well aware that the world follows the developmen’s taking place in our region stemming from other reasons as well. No one wants regulation of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as much as we do. The latest meeting of the Armenian and Azeri presidents gave us hope that it is possible to reach a settlement even around principles over which there exists disagreement," said Oskanian. We know that the settlement will also depend on the status and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. The conflict has started after their security was threatened and the right to their self-determination was violated. The principles that are being discussed are aimed at satisfying the right to self-determination of Karabakh people at the same time eliminating the consequences of the conflict. We expect that Azerbaijan will really find will to recognize and respect the right of Karabakh people to decide its own future, status and system of security," the minister said. The minister also referred to the Constitutional referendum, which is going to take place in Karabakh on December 10. During the recent 15 years different political institutions have been created in Nagorno Karabakh and the adoption of fundamental law has become an urgent necessity. The allegations by Azerbaijan that the referendum in Karabakh will impede the peace process do not correspond to reality," added Oskanian. While in Belgium, Oskanian met with US Assistant Secretary Daniel Fried, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet, Luxemburg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn, Irish State Minister on European Affairs Noul Treacy, Portuguese State Minister on European Affairs Lobo Antunes, OSCE Secretary General Marc Brichambeau, and Chairman of the OSCE PA Goran Lenmarker. The minister also met with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
