Professor Vahakn Dadrian–Armenian History scholar–member of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences–and recipient of the Republic of Armenia "Mashdots" Award will dicuss Warrant for Genocide–on Tuesday–January 26–at 7:30 p.m. at the Armenian Center–51 Commonwealth Ave.–San Francisco.
Vahakn Dadrian’s new book Warrant for Genocide traces the roots of the Turkish destruction of the Armenian population in the Ottoman Empire. References to the seeds of the genocide were found in the 1919-1920 Turkish Courts Martial documen’s of the Young Turk Ittihadist leaders. The archives were replete with xenophobic nationalism–calls for the use of arms to achieve that end–and references to Islam to incite the masses against Armenia’s. Professor Dadrian reveals the socio-political conditions which facilitated plans to exterminate the Armenian population.
Prof. Dadrian is the Director of the Genocide Study Project sponsored by the H.F. Guggenheim Foundation. The Project’s first major publication was The History of the Armenian Genocide– which is widely regarded as the seminal work on the Genocide. With German Responsibility in the Armenian Genocide– Dadrian revealed strong evidence of German complicity in the mass murders of Armenia’s. Warrant for Genocide is another important step in the invaluable pursuit of Armenian Genocide scholarship.
