YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Prime Minister Armen Darbinian met Wednesday with a delegation of the American Belmont Holdings Co. led by its president–Raymond Perelman.
Belmont Holdings is the world’s second largest producer of perlite–a volcanic rock widely used in construction and industry.
The company owns the perlite factory in Aragats and is currently making preparations to resume its operation.
Perelman announced his company’s planned to bring the factory’s perlite production up to 50,000 tons a year in the near future–or even to 150,000 tons pending the necessary exemptions–especially in the transportation realm.
Darbinian described the construction materials producing industry as an area which has the highest prospects for the future in Armenia–given the country’s vast mineral and human resources.
Perelman also said that his company was very interested in Armenia’s treasury bills market.
