YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–During a Tuesday meeting between President Robert Kocharian and CIS Executive Secretary Boris Berezovsky the two discussed issues regarding reforms and further development of the CIS structure. Noting that it is first of all necessary to overcome the conception that CIS is an organ working under the aegis of Russia–the two stressed that only in this case it is possible to make the Commonwealth a truly working structure and establish normal relations.
According to Kocharian and Berezovsky–the main problem of the CIS is the economic problem. Strengthening of economic relations between the newly independent countries will be a good base for the development of political cooperation as well–they said.
The two also spoke of conflicts within CIS–in particular–the Karabakh conflict. President Robert Kocharian presented Armenia’s position on the Karabakh settlement. Prime Minister Armen Darbinian received Berezovsky on Tuesday. He informed Berezovsky of the main trends in Armenia’s economic reforms–as well as the program of the new government.
