YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Minister of Privatization Pavel Kaltakhchian informed the Ministry of the Interior of a telephone call made by a stranger saying that a bomb was planted at the Ministry of Privatization.
At a meeting with reporters General Hovhannes Varian said that after the evacuation of the Ministry personnel–policemen with trained dogs searched all the cabinets at the building. The one-and-a-half-hour search brought no results–no bomb was discovered at the building.
"Telephone hooliganism," was the description of the incident by Varian. He said if an explosive device had been found then the incident could be considered as an act of terrorism.
Mentioning the recent incident at the National Assembly–where a package with explosives was discovered there–Varian expressed the opinion that attempts are being made to create tension and terrorize the population. Varian said he did not believe that they would find a bomb–but stressed that a check is always necessary. "I think it is not the last ‘bomb’ in my practice," the general said. He gave assurances that everything possible will be done to find and punish those guilty of such incidents.
