YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The British Embassy in Armenia issued an announcement Friday asserting that Ambassador Timothy Jones never used the word "Genocide," when discussing the events of 1915 to 1923 as reported by Armenpress on July 18.
Armenpress stressed that the mistake wasn’t made by the news agency–but rather by the British Embassy–adding that the agency is in possession of an audio tape–in which the Ambassador can clearly be heard using the word "Genocide."
"Our country views what happened to the Armenia’s between 1915 and 1923 within the Ottoman Empire as a terrible period in history," stressed the announcement by the British Embassy–which added that Great Britain was also at war with the Ottoman Empire.
The announcement went on to say that if information about any atrocities were being publicized–it was being done by Great Britain.
The Armenpress news agency was adamant to point out that the audio tape recording of the statement clearly captured Jones using the word Genocide.
"Our country recognized the Genocide against the Armenia’s," said the Ambassador in the Armenpress recording. The news agency announced that the tape is available for review by any entity that doubts the content of the recording.
