YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian offered his condolences to the families and relatives of the victims of last Sunday’s bus fire that left two students dead and many others injured.
One child had died on the day of the accident. A second child passed away Wednesday morning as a result of burns received in the explosion.
Six students and one teacher remain hospitalized. Two of them are in critical condition.
Police in Armenia are investigating Sunday’s fire. The explosion occurred shortly after the bus carrying some 40 school children and their teachers refueled with liquid gas at a station near Yerevan. 27 passengers were hospitalized at the time. Preliminary evidence suggests that the blast was caused by a leakage of fuel.
The Ministry of Education and Science has issued a warning to Armenian parents and teachers to avoid using old and worn-out buses for school trips. The ill-fated bus was carrying pupils from a village in the southern Ararat district on a tour to Yerevan.
