STATE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER JOHN GARAMENDI AND STATE CONTROLLER STEVE WESTLY BECOME THE LATEST MAJOR STATEWIDE OFFICIALS TO SUPPORT URGENT CAMPAIGN
LOS ANGELES–State Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi and California State Controller Steve Westly have lent their full support to the ANC Genocide Prevention Postcard Campaign. The Postcard campaign is designed to seek passage of legislation pending in both the US Senate and House of Representatives commemorating the 15th anniversary of America’s adoption of the Genocide Convention. The legislation specifically references the Armenian Genocide. Over 50,000 Americans have participated in the ANC Postcard Campaign since it was launched last year.
"State Controller Steve Westly’s commitment to this campaign should be a message to the Senate and House leadership of the widespread popular bi-partisan support that these pieces of legislation appreciate," commented ANCA-WR Executive Director Ardashes Kassakhian. "State Controller Westly has time and again said that the Genocide of the Armenia’s should be recognized and his actions demonstrate the commitment behind his words," he added.
Westly expressed his full support for the ANC Postcard Campaign and submitted his personally signed postcard to the ANCA-WR headquarters. The postcards–one addressed to the Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert and the other addressed to the President of the Senate Bill Frist–call for the House and Senate leadership to schedule a vote on HRes. 193 and SRes. 164.
In a personal note to the ANCA-WR–Garamendi also pledged his complete for the Campaign–and included signed copies of the postcards to Hastert and Frist. "Good luck on this important campaign," noted Garamendi.
"John Garamendi has always been a fighter for the truth," explained ANCA-WR Chairman Raffi Hamparian. "His support for our Genocide Prevention Postcard Campaign is fresh proof of this fact and his long friendship with the Armenian-American community," he added.
