ROME (ArmRadio)–His Holiness Aram I, the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, Wednesday addressed the opening session of the Group of 8, the annual forum that brings together the leaders of the world’s most powerful nations.

As the only religious leader from the Middle East to speak during the opening session, Aram I presented on the role of religion in addressing the current economic crisis, the Catholicosate’s press office said.

This year’s summit brought together representatives from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States to discuss the state of the global economy.

The Italian Government, in cooperation with the Roman Catholic Church, had invited a small group of religious leaders representing the major world religions to address the Summit.
