BEIRUT–Catholicos Aram I received Iranian President Mohammad Khatami’s delegate Ali Abdl Ali Zade on Sunday–February 25. Ali Zade was heading an Iranian delegation which was to meet with the Lebanese President and Prime Minister. President Khatami had recommended Ali Zade also visit the Catholicos while in Beirut.
During their one hour meeting–relations between the Great House of Cilicia and the Islamic Republic of Iran were discussed–as well as issues pertaining to the Armenian community of Iran.
The Iranian delegation thanked the Catholicos for his positive and important role in presenting Iran within international circles. The Iranian delegates also stated they sympathize with Armenia’s–especially Iranian-Armenia’s.
The Catholicos asked the delegate to convey his viewpoints on certain issues discussed to President Khatami.
Ali Zade is Iran’s current Minister of Public Utility Construction–and the former governor of Iran’s Azerbaijan province. He has played an important role in the renovation efforts of St. Tade and St. Stepanos monasteries. Ali Zade told the Catholicos he will continue to help the Armenian community of Iran with various public projects.
