YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A Chinese delegation comprising of senior officials of the party and led by the chairman of the party’s foreign relation committee Xiai U–met on last Friday with Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Markarian.
According to government press office–Xiai U extended a message to Markarian from the Chinese Prime Minister and an official invitation to visit China.
Having noted that their visit coincided with Armenian National Holiday – the Day of Independence–Xiai U congratulated Armenia’s on behalf of his government on that occasion.
Xiai U was quoted by the government press office as saying that "though Armenia and China are far away from one another the large-scale bilateral economic projects agreed by the two countries are developing successfully." According to him–"Armenia’s big scientific potential and China’s capacities and huge human resources may produce serious results in the economic sphere."
One of the projects involves the launch of a synthetic rubber production in China. The Armenian chemical factory Nairit will provide expertise and technological assistance.
According to an official source–a Communist party official "informed the Prime Minister about China’s interest in the Armenia-Iran gas pipeline project." He expressed hope of this and other economic projects worked out during Markarian’s visit to Beijing later this year.
Markarian–for his part–said his government expects assistance from "friendly China" for coping with disastrous effects of the recent drought. The Armenian premier made a similar appeal to the international community on Monday.
Markarian also said that the active work of the two countries’ embassies is important for strengthening multifaceted bilateral relations.
He hailed the agreement reached between his Republican party and the Chines Communist party on expanding the cooperation field.
