This year, the Class of 2011 with its 56 graduates, brings the total number of its graduates to 1860. Ferrahian High School was established in1964 and in 1969 the school had its first crop of graduates. Of course, besides the graduates, many other students have also attended Ferrahian for several years, but having transferred to other schools did not have the chance to graduate from Ferrahian. But, once a Ferrahian student, they are always a part of the school’s bigger family. Of significance this year, 10 graduates are children of alumni and 29 graduates are lifers, who have diligently attended our school K-12.
With great pride we are pleased to announce that the Class of 2011 commencement will take place on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at 4:00 p.m., at the school’s Avedissian Hall in Encino. Besides family members and friends of the graduates, present at the ceremonies will be faculty members, members of the alumni, school supporters and benefactors as well as representatives of the community and its leadership. We expect over 800 attendees.
This year, the commencement keynote speaker is Steve Dadaian, Esq. a Ferrahian graduate of Class of 1979, and father of two Ferrahian graduates. The School Board message will be delivered by Board Chairperson Rafi Kuyumjian. The diplomas will be bestowed by the school Principal John Kossakian and Prelate Moushegh Mardirossian. During the ceremonies, the graduates will receive merit and special recognition awards totaling up to $18,000.
As always, Ferrahian has produced a generation of well educated Armenian adolescents empowered in the Armenian Language, Culture and national identity. All graduates of this year will continue their education in higher institutions in Los Angeles and throughout the State. Of these students 19 (34%) have received 42 admittance offers from UC campuses; five being from UCLA and two from UC Berkeley. Twenty one students were admitted to CSU Northridge and ten students were admitted into private universities. Overall, without considering multiple admittances of some students, 60% of the graduating class has been accepted to four-year colleges. This figure is consistent with the school ten-year average, which is at 65%. The remaining 40% of the 2011 graduates will continue their education in two-year colleges, to be transferred to a university of their choice at a later stage.
The School Board and the Administration extend their best wishes to Ferrahian graduates old and new and we sincerely congratulate our 2011 graduates.
