YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia held an assembly on March 20 and approved a list of candidates to run for parliament on May 30.
Communist Party leader Sergey Badalian announced Monday that he–second secretary Vladimir Darbinian–member of parliament Leonid Hakopian–Hrant Voskanian and others are at the top of a list of candidates to run for parliament by proportional election system. The total number of candidates to vie for parliament seats by proportional election system is 84.
The assembly also decided to nominate candidates for 71 out of 75 election districts.
Badalian said that the population "has tilted towards the left" and this would probably lead to the communists making up 50 percent of a future parliament. He also said that a task of isolation of right-wing forces–such as ANM–NDU and SDU–should be tackled.
The assembly also discussed major provisions of the communist party’s election platform–which generally coincide with the party’s program. The major provision–the restoration of socialism and direct democracy on the basis of multiparty system–has remained unchanged.
