YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian communists held a special session dedicated to the Karabakh issue Tuesday–as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia–Sergey Badalian–said the event was to shed light on the future of Karabakh.
In his report–Badalian went back to the history of the country–presenting to participants all documen’s–including the Giulistan Peace Accord–pertaining to its background.
Badalian noted that the West and OSCE were unwilling to admit historic facts. According to him–the resolution of the Karabakh problem lies in giving Nagorno Karabakh independent status within the renewed Union.
Such a status–Badalian said–must be given to Chechnya–Abkhazia.
However–representatives of the Communist Parties of Russia and Georgia spoke against such an approach.
The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Georgia said such a solution would promote the division of Georgia and Russia–which after the break-up of the USSR is the support of communists.
Secretary of the Central Committee of the Russian Communist Party Valentin Kuptsov said that they were not authorized to express their stance on that issue.
The refusal from the principle of territorial integrity in no way coincides with the communist ideals about the restoration of the Union–he said.
The session adjourned after Kuptsov’s speech and no discussion tookplace.
Badalian apologized for being misunderstood–reiterating that the session was of purely informative character and was not going to take any decision.
