YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–By order of a presidential decree Robert Kocharian–Friday–relieved Carlos Ghazarian of his post of Deputy Interior Minister and appointed Edik Barseghian Deputy Interior Minister.
Prior to his new appointment Barseghian headed the State Motor Licensing and Inspection Department.
Also on Friday–Yerevan Mayor Albert Bazeyan submitted his resignation to president Kocharian. Attempts to contact Bazeyan were not successful since aides reported that the mayor was not in his office.
The mayoral spokesman Souren Sourenyan confirmed the resignation report and added that Bazeyan met with Kocharian–however–the latter has not accepted the mayor’s resignation.
Sourenyan noted that Bazeyan’s resignation came as a surprise not only to Yerevan city officials–but also to the Yerkrapah party–which chaired by Bazeyan.
The spokesman’said the main reasons for Bazeyan’s resignation were the current domestic situation in the country and the lack of financial resources to run municipal activities.
