YEREVAN–An international conference on the 1940s repatriation drive to Armenia is set for December 12-14 in the Armenian resort town of Tsakhgadzor, reported Armenpress.
Organized by Armenia’s newly formed Diaspora Ministry, the conference will focus on the Soviet era repatriation drive, its historical circumstances, and the dire consequences it had for many who left their Diaspora existence and returned to then Soviet Armenia, only to find discrimination and the promise of a better life unfulfilled, according to the head of the Diaspora Ministry’s Repatriation and Research Department.
About 60 people are slated to participate in the conference, presenting lectures on the topic. Representatives from the Diaspora Ministry, National Academy of Sciences, Yerevan State University, and scholars from Armenian communities in America, Greece, Argentina, Lebanon, Abkhazia, and the Russian province of Krasnodar will also deliver speeches.
