ISTANBUL (Doğan News Agency)—Prosecutor Murat İnam has been assigned to the murder case of Armenian-Turkish journalist Hrant Dink, as well as to the Ergenekon coup plot case, after prosecutor Muammer Akkaş was removed from both cases in a judicial purge last month.
İnam has received all the case files that Akkaş had been dealing with in Istanbul, including the Ergenekon case and Hrant Dink’s murder case.
Akkaş was instrumental in carrying out probes against corrupt leaders, the results of which have brought Turkish politics into turmoil since December of last year. He planned a second round of probes, but was prevented by the new Istanbul Police Chief, who refused to cooperate.
Akkaş has been reassigned to the Tekirdağ Chief Prosecutor’s office by the decision of Turkey’s Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors.
