ANKARA (Anatolia)–French-Armenian soccer sensation Youri Djorkaeff was expelled Friday from a World Soccer team–following Turkish complaints to The International Union of Soccer Federation–FIFA–which recanted an invitation to the soccer star.
FIFA put together a world championship team to compete against the Turkish National Team–as part of that country’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
Djorkaeff whose mother is Armenian–has continuously made statemen’s supporting a French parliament resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
Following a report by the Anatolia news agency–the Turkish Soccer Federation took action–as a result of which Djorkaeff was expelled from the World Team.
Ismail Ozersin–the Chairman of the 75th Year Celebrations Organization Committee of the Turkish Soccer Federation–told the Anatolia–”we have applied to the FIFA and conveyed Djorkaeff’s statemen’s to the AP and L’Equipe magazine following the Anatolia agency’s report."
"We won’t let the 75th anniversary celebrations be overshadowed by such incidents," he added.
