YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan) – The European Union "Traceka" program–under the auspices of the Dutch "DHV" company has developed and will soon implement a development project of motor vehicles in three Transcaucasian republics. During a presentation–Thursday–representatives of "DHV" outlined provisions of the projects concerning Armenia. The project provides for the development of motor transport for the Transcaucasian region–and the creation of a common cargo system.
The project proposes to implement drastic reforms within Armenia’s transport industry and improve legislation–as well as speed up the privatization process.
Armenia’s Transport Minister Genrikh Kochinian stressed the importance of speedy and successful privatization for the implementation of this project–which is expected to begin activity in late 1997.
"Traceka" program aims to develop Europe-Caucasus-Middle Asia transportation corridors. the project will function under the EU TACIS Program (Technical Assistance to CIS).
