YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– This April 24th will mark the 84th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The Institute for Armenian Problems is among the organizations dealing with the problem of Hai Tahd (Armenian Cause). Director of the Institute Eduard Hovhannissian gave a more detailed account of the IAP’s activities.
The Institute was founded in Munich in 1997 and was officially recognized by the German authorities as a research institute dealing with the problems of Armenian history–culture as well as those of policy and Armenian Cause. The results of the studies conducted by the Institute are published in Armenian–Russian–English–French and German.
The IAP published three volumes of documen’s concerning the Armenian Genocide. However–Hovhannissian said–"in the process of our work it became clear that if the international press and relevant organizations did not raise the issue of Armenian Genocide–it was not accounted for by the lack of documen’s–but by the lack of political will; it was not advantageous to offend Turkey," etc..
"The Armenian Cause is a political problem–and political problems are always settled from the position of interests," that is why "the IAP decided to declare its main mission the resolution of the "Armenian Cause" and to politicize the problem–taking into account the existence of problems of compensation and legal problems concerning the laws that should be applied in condemning the Young Turks," Hovhannissian stressed.
The second stage of the IAP’s activities was marked by the opening of the Institute’s branch in Armenia this year. The official publication of the Armenian Branch of the IAP is the "Tesaket" (Viewpoint) magazine whose first issue was recently published.
"We intend to present our studies to the Foreign Ministry of Armenia and we hope that based on our studies–the Foreign Ministry will develop its foreign policy towards the Armenian Cause," Hovhannissian said.
