YEREVAN (Yerkir)–A marathon called "The victorious march continues" dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the liberation of Shoushi and organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Supreme Council of Armenia kicked off Tuesday at Holy Etchmiadzin. The marathon will continue until May 9 with 500 young ARF members participating at different points, passing on a torch, which was lit in Etchmiadzin. On May 9, Karabakh Primate, Archbishop Barkev Martirosyan is expected to lead a special candle lighting ceremony from the torch at the Holy Ghanchetsots church in Shoushi. "The liberation of Shoushi has a great significance, and this beautiful event symbolizes the unification of our two parts and the idea of unifying our lands," ARF Supreme Body of Armenia representative Armen Rustamian said. "This victory was a break through in our liberation war." General Artur Aghabekian, addressing the youth, said, "You are replacing those who died for the liberation of our villages and ended in the liberation of Shoushi on May 9." The marathoners reached Yerblur national cemetery, where they laid a wreath at the tomb of freedom fighter Vigen Zajarian and passed the torch to the youth of Massis who will continue the trek to the next checkpoint.
