YEREVAN (Armenpress)-The remains of an Armenian Merchant ship, which navigated the Indian Ocean in the 17th century has been found after a four month long expedition by the Ayas Armenian Nautical Research Club, Ayas Chairman Karen Balayan told Armenpress.
In 1968 the trading ship was attacked and looted in the Indian Ocean by famous pirate William Kidd, according to Balayan. The expedition led his team to the Caribbean Sea, where the ship was reported to have eventually sunk.
Balayan said they managed to find some fragmen’s of that ship that will be thoroughly examined. The expedition was also filmed and will be made into a documentary soon, he added.
William Kidd was a Scottish sailor remembered for his trial and execution for piracy after returning to England from a voyage to the Indian Ocean.
