YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The first international book fair-exhibition opened in Yerevan’s Cinema House Wednesday with close to 300 publishers from 20 countries participating. Publishing companies from Russia–Iran–Germany–Ukraine–Italy and other countries–as well as Armenian publishers from the Diaspora have brought their works to Armenia.
A significant portion of the exhibition is occupied by 100 Armenian publishers.
"Over the past ten years–since regaining its independence–book publishing in Armenia has gone through severe setbacks and the aim of this exhibition is to try to restore the love towards the books once experienced by the majority of Armenia’s," Sos Movsisian–the chairman of the National Association of Publishers said at the exhibition’s opening.
The book exhibition may also help local publishers to establish contacts with their counterparts abroad. Ten years ago about 1,200 denominations of books were published in Armenia compared to only 200 nowadays.
The exhibition is financed by the Eurasia Foundation with funds from the USAID.
